Totally Surreal

"Dear Friends,

Well, it just went from BAD and STRESSFUL to WORSE and TOTALLY SURREAL….

BUT I like to keep things in perspective.

YOU WILL NOT DIE if you don’t get a new pair of earrings."

This was from Danaca Designs in the U district in Seattle.

I like her attitude! Also, my friend or her friend has coined a new word for us: we are

APOCALOPTIMISTS

It sounds cooler when you say it aloud but obviously,  it is optimism in the face of probable apocalypse.

I feel lucky to not have to worry about my job being shut down or losing my income unless, of course, it applies to Social Security and the downfall of that institution.  Trump, in all his wisdom, wants to continue cutting benefits for people. This man is unbelievable and the people who support him are equally unbelievable! So I don't feel smug, not in any way. I am giving my small contributions to small businesses like Book-It Theater which

might go under in the recession that is sure to come, if it isn't already here.

In some better world, perhaps, my trip could have come off, I would have had a grand time and there would be no lethal virus making us unable to hug each other, go to eat at a restaurant or go to a movie theater. When I wake up some mornings I forget what the world is like now for a brief second and that is lovely! But we live in this world and that's the way it is, friends. We have to try and be optimists in the face of calamity.

  1. Great thoughts as we watch how this virus is bringing out the best and worst of people. Love the sign! I'm sorry your trip was postponed, but your house-sitting gigs look fun and present you with new experiences! I agree that your Bainbridge Island chickens are beautiful.

    1. Thanks, Unknown. I thought the lovely chickens would make me stop eating chicken (interesting how it goes from plural to mean specific animals to singular to meaning a food) but sadly, I am still partaking in that meal.

  2. Great sign! Though, I must say, I find tp to be a cheaper & no less effective option for my nose. We are losing a lot - so much beyond the immediate horizon of isolation - extending to the losses and risks faced by Book-It and other non-profits. I'm glad you're helping them.

    1. TP is a great substitute for tissues! Except maybe in these times.I scored big yesterday: I bought 2 packages of 12 rolls each at Walgreen's. One was intended for a friend but she already bought some. There is something way out of whack if the highlight of your day is scoring TP!
