We are all germaphobes now

Image
Do you think the current times are harder for people who are germaphobes naturally, who have always been germaphobic, those people who are used to using hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes and not touching their face? Or is it harder for people who scoffed at people using wipes like I did? I think it's hard for everyone but the big change is what's hardest--but, of course  what is the biggest change? I hated the smell of Purell and the wipes at the library. It didn't give me a headache but it just bothered me, the alcohol smell, so I hardly ever used them and would wave at the air trying to get the smell away from me because people were completely unconscious of the smell. They would put it on and then approach you very closely. It's better than the stench of cigarette breath and body but only marginally, unless you are chemically sensitive.  Now I lather on the hand sanitizer and have bought some and carry it with me like I always meant to before but almost ne...

Guilty!

Image
I'm guilty... I'm guilty of passing on dubious recommendations for dealing with Coronavirus. It was from my cousin who I trust and it was an audio recording.  It mentioned being on an island and translating it from Spanish but who knows who made it, where it came from! I spent the time to transcribe it, thinking I was somehow privileged to get these wise thoughts early on. Gargle every 20 minutes with warm water was the one you probably heard. When you come into your house take a shower and wash your clothes.  That was back when I thought it was okay to have a couple friends come into my house and I wondered how I was going to wash their clothes! I am guilty of scoffing at people who seemed overly cautious. I am still sometimes guilty of that but we are all learning and we all have different degrees of fear. I have never been a germaphobe but am becoming one! But I don't spray down every package I bring into the house; I still touch books in the Little Libraries. I d...

Draconian and other pandemic words

Image
Words and phrases I am getting very tired of reading: Cancelled  Abundance of caution Draconian* Social distancing (should be physical distancing) Do you have any to add? Do you know about Draco, first legislator of Athens in Ancient Greece? Wikipedia: The laws were particularly harsh. For example, any  debtor  whose status was lower than that of his  creditor  was forced into slavery.  The punishment was more lenient for those owing a debt to a member of a lower class. The  death penalty  was the punishment for even minor  offences , such as stealing a cabbage.

The Last Hug

Image
April 5th: a dog licked my finger (I was not 6 ft from the owner!). April 25th: I got to pet my friend's dog, Tucker (a 14 year old Golden Retriever) in her yard for long enough to get coated in his fur. I always thought I was touch deprived but it was nothing compared to this! I have had a cat or a dog for the past 15 years but now...I could go to a cuddle party but now, forget it!  Whine, whine, whine At least I am healthy and not broke and have friends I can walk with (safe distance) but these days they might be wearing a mask so I won't even see them smile.  What else can be taken away? Lots! I am watching The Plot Against America on Hulu, based on the book by Phillip Roth and yes, it can get a lot worse.
