Foxy is my pandemic pal for now
My first foster dog experience has been great. Foxy is a nine year old cuddle buddy from Southern California. He had all his (rotten) teeth removed at the vet after his owner gave him up along with her other 3 dogs. He had mats and mange on his ear. He doesn't seem used to walking on a leash and he's quite reactive to noises and sudden movements.
Honestly, I have never been around such an affectionate dog. He seems more like a cat, constantly seeking my lap, even when I'm on the toilet! What a perfect pandemic pal!
But unless I make this a "foster fail" I need to help arrange for his new home to be a great one. This is so hard. I want to be free to travel (someday!). I am still recovering from helping and losing Darcy and not long before her, Minnaloushe. Not to mention the money I spent! And a 9 year old small dog might have another 6 years but who knows?
This way I hope to go on and meet other wonderful animals and help them like I have helped Foxy. But in the short run, sans human hugs or even handshakes, it's a hard row to hoe.
P.S. He is now with his "forever home" and getting cuddles from 3 people! I miss him but I feel I did the right thing for him. They are already in love with him and it's only been a day! Plus there's another dog there who is his size. Still, my house seems empty without him.
