Up the coast
We saw some beautiful places today! But first Mary wanted to find a place near where her tenant grew up.
We went up the coast from Newry with a quick stop at a memorial for the 17 British soldiers killed by the IRA near Narrow Castle on 27 Aug 1979.
Then we saw a lovely place called Strangford and had lunch at the Lobster Pot. Great seafood chowder! They turned away a party of two shortly after us because they had a huge group from a Game of Thrones tour from Belfast.
Then we took a ferry from that town to the equally charming town of Portaferry on the Ards peninsula where we searched for the 13 trees near the aquarium that Mary's friend was making sure were not cut down for more parking spaces. We hugged the biggest one.
Tired, we made our way to a B&B in Glenariffe and at the not very late hour of 7:15 tried unsuccessfully to find an open restaurant in 3 towns. They were all lovely but no food was to be had. We ended up buying some food at a gas station store and supplemented it with Mary's homemade spelt bread.
