A savage beauty

Yesterday was a day of travel (on public transportation) and so a fair amount of waiting and rushing. And rain! I took a taxi to the train station, a train from Belfast to Dublin Connolly station, and a LUAS slow as molasses tram to Dublin Heuston station. I made the train to Galway with only 2 minutes to spare! In Galway I took a taxi to my Airbnb and took a bus back to the center after settling in with my luggage. I started to walk back after dinner, a 35 minute walk, but it was raining hard so I waited and waited for the bus and finally found a taxi at a gas station.

A car would have taken 3 hrs and 40 minutes instead of 5-6 hours. Not bad! The couple from Nebraska sitting next to me at dinner paid $1800 for a car for 2 weeks, so about $130/day. Before the car they rented a boat to visit ports of small towns of Ireland.

Today I took the bus to the city center (after two full buses passed us by) and took a tour of Connemara with 24 other people (no masks except me). It was a long day and we stopped for 5 minutes for photos a lot.

Damien, our guide and driver, showed us turf
We had a quick stop for tea and toilet in the charming town of Roundstone. The two workers at the cafe were from Argentina!

Oscar Wilde told the truth!

Connemara has a beach with white sand! And a lot of wind and seaweed.

The view from Sky Road near Clifden (where I am headed after Galway).
We had 3 hours (including lunch) at Connemara National Park. A gorgeous but windy hike! I visited the bookstore in town which was great!

The visitors center had this in their exhibit

Their cafe had a couple of hungry goats in their courtyard

Kylemore Abbey and Castle. We had to choose between the park or touring the Kylemore Abbey but we did get 10 minutes to take photos

This is the bridge from the movie, The Quiet Man (1952), with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara
