Here I am in Iceland, much lighter

I just got to Reykjavik an hour or so ago (it's 9:30 here but 11:30 Paris time)..but my bag didn't.  I had to make a rushed trip to a Target type of store while the Airbnb host waited for me buying basic stuff!

It is unbelievable to me that someone can screw up as much as the Icelandair employee! She not only got my name confused with a man whose last name started with McL; she gave me his boarding pass and she had my bag sent to God knows where through Scandinavian Air, not even the Icelandair! She had my passport in her hands and couldn't be bothered to get it right! Or even ask me where I was traveling to!

This is the baggage check tag she gave me

So far the only compensation I've gotten from the airline is an extra large white T-shirt and a crappy toothbrush,  a razor, and some little packets of shampoo and toothpaste.  They don't know where my bag is but they're going to try Paris and then Copenhagen. Or San Francisco.

It's the only time I've checked in my bag on this trip with 3 other flights and I'm sure sorry that I did and I'm sure sorry that I didn't check the boarding pass at check in.

I feel mad at Ryan McLeland (?) but I know he's not at fault! I wonder if he has my bag...

I have a feeling I will have to make do for 4 days with the T-shirt and, in my mad rush to buy stuff when I don't have any idea about sizes or prices (currency here is not euros, it's kroners), I got a pair of sweatpants, a thermal top (which is too small), 3 pairs of socks and 4 pairs of underwear. And yogurt (name is jogurt in Icelandic) for breakfast and rye bread and an orange or banana.

I haven't even mentioned the more than two hour delay and the incredible lack of information about the delay nor when the boarding would start. One employee tried to help me with my bag and sounded very confident that she would locate the bag; after 2 calls that didn't get answered she talked to someone without any success and she lost her patience and told me to ask at boarding which was ridiculous.  A few flight attendants onboard did try to help but ended up passing the buck yet again, telling me I had to talk to the baggage service office. The man there was nice and seemed eager to help.

Everything is a lesson, right? For me, this is a lesson in how you can always make do with less.

  1. What a hassle at the end of your trip, Carla, but it seems you are handling it well. You are only there 4 days and your bag will eventually catch up with you, probably back in Seattle. Icelandair sounds like an airline to avoid if possible! Glean all you can from your final days abroad and see you soon.
