Yes, another castle!

I was looking at the horses and missed the sea view from the bedroom! The sunrise was gorgeous.

Today, Sunday, I took the bus and walked to the Waterford Friends Meeting for Worship.  There were 40 or 50 people. I found out afterwards that usually they have about half of that but this was a Quarterly Meeting between Limerick and Cork.

The man in charge of the meetinghouse library, David Chapman, offered me a ride to the train. He ended up very kindly giving me a tour of Quaker historical sites. So nice!

Rosamund  Jacob sounds like a very interesting Quaker but she was too nationalist for her fellow Friends and left the Waterford Friends Meeting in her mid-20's

I took the train to Kilkenny and it was raining.  I arrived about 1:15. I was happy to be inside at the Kilkenny Castle (after a delicious lunch at a Turkish restaurant). But I rushed through the castle, not my usual style,  partly because the bus and train back to Waterford were both too early, at 3:45, or too late, at 7:30!

The Library was a recreation of the furnishing styles of the mid to late 19th century

Is this a toilet for giants?

Tapestries made from cartoons. Apparently that word is from the French word and doesn't mean what we think it means!

The Kilkenny Castle is huge!
There was a race just ending, a benefit for breast cancer,  so there was a lot of PINK all over town!  🎀

I walked around Kilkenny which is a very cute town but the rain and wind were too much. I bought a pricey wool hat (oops, I didn't realize there were sheep on it...oh, well) and made for the train. There is only a stop in between and so it goes very quickly (costs 11.20 euros each way)

"Every abbey in Ireland was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell in the early 1600s when the English decided being Catholic was a crime–and would be a crime for the next 200 years." So can you imagine how much more there would be to see in Ireland if not for the evil and murderous Cromwell?

  1. That's horrible about the destruction of the Abbeys. I've probably heard that before but just now am thinking what it means just in terms of lost connection to the past. And so interesting the connection between cartoon -- carton. You're in your last couple of days there, ready to take off to the next adventure. Happy travels :)
