Escazú

Today I had some yogurt and went across the street (a busy street and not easy to cross but fortunately there is an actual pedestrian signal,  though I have seen a driver go through it every time) and found a bagel restaurant. So, of course, I had to have one! And it was quite tasty.

Then I went wandering and after 15 minutes I came upon the Multi Plaza, the most famous thing in Escazú (but see the agreement below), a huge mall with tons of stores like H&M and expensive ones, too, lots of restaurants and most importantly to me, a nice bathroom.

I liked this sign on a pole although it might be an advertisement (life is a gift, enjoy it every day):

Then I did my laundry at the Airbnb--pretty exciting after a month of not being able to do it!

Escazú has something to do with witches but the connection is vague.

Popular legend tags Escazú as La Ciudad de las Brujas (the City of the Witches), leading to its municipal seal, a depiction of a witch on a broomstick flying over the surrounding mountains. It has been suggested that this reputation stems from the perception of Crypto-Jewish traditions since a large number of Conversos were known to have settled in the area.  (Wikipedia)

Also new to me is an environmental agreement. Signed in 2018 here in Escazú,  San José, Costa Rica, it was entered into force on April 22, 2021:

The Escazú Agreement is the first international treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean concerning the environment, and the first in the world to include provisions on the rights of environmental defenders.

I found an Italian restaurant nearby and went for an early dinner. I ordered lasagna but there was no pasta visible in it. I ate it anyway but complained.  The server gave it to me for free but I felt bad about not letting her know earlier.  Maybe she thought I was putting one over on her but I wasn't.  Being a foreigner makes me feel like I don't know how things work and it's hard to complain. Silly, I know!

Pouring hard, as usual, about 4:00.
