You must buy a spurtle!

On the way to the bus I listened to a couple of men busking a familiar Jewish song and chipped in a few pounds. I noticed what a peculiar instrument the violinist was playing!

I visited the Glasgow Women's Library. They even have a wee garden across the street!

It's in an old Carnegie library, nice but nothing grand. I went on a tour with 3 local women and then talked to Carolyn at the front desk. It is free to join as a member!

A gruesome picture in their display cabinets

It turned out the library was part of the 4 day Glasgow Open Doors Festival and all of a sudden there were 20 or so people who entered and asked probing questions like, why a women's library?

After a lunch of tuna salad at a restaurant called Garlic & Thyme, I walked to the Sharnaka Kinetic Theatre.

Sharmanka was founded by sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky, a Russian Jew, and theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya in St.Petersburg and he moved to Scotland in mid-90s. Bersudsky has retired along with Jakovskaya but the show is being continued by her son. The word "sharmanka" (шарманка) is Russian for hurdy-gurdy or barrel-organ.

It was a good show and I bought a poster for £5, not a convenient thing to carry in luggage, even in a poster tube which they gave me for free. I thought I might mail it home but the Post Office (conveniently located in the back of another store near my hotel) said it would cost £23 ($31)!

At night I went to the Glasgow Film Theatre (a non-profit!) to see the documentary "The Golden Spurtle" about the 30th annual Scottish porridge making contest in Carrbridge, Scotland, a half hour south of Inverness. It was amusing. And short, only 75 minutes after 15 minutes of advertisements!

A spurtle is what you should use to stir your porridge (we called it oatmeal).
