Perth food walking tour
Today I got rather a late start but walked to the center of Perth to see the Perth Museum. I encountered a lovely park, Riverside Heather Park along the way. It had many sculptures.
I had a nice time at the museum but I hadn't had any food for breakfast except an apple. Unfortunately, the famous exhibit, "The Stone of Destiny," is closed due to damage to the glass case by a mentally ill person with a hammer. The stone itself weighs 330 lbs!

I found the restaurant where the food tour* was starting with a bit of difficulty and saw the guide, Wendy, waiting for me outside. Inside a couple from Liverpool, Kate and Darren, seated. They have lived in Perth for 2 years and have found it a better quality of life with cleaner air. I'm sure their black Lab Basil (from Fawlty Towers) loves it in the small town nearby of Crieff.
We had a gooseberry and elderflower fizz (wine), oat cakes, Scottish cheddar cheese and caramelized union chutney.
and from there we walked (slowly, as Kate has a sprained ankle from stepping on a dog toy) on to get a bit of history, architecture and, of course, food.
At the museum restaurant we had a Scottish dessert called "cranachan" of cream, oats and raspberries,
and finally a tasting of 4 beers at a brewpub called Cullach.
They asked me about my host and I told them a bit about her and 5W. Kate quickly guessed it was Clare! They both work with her at VisionPK, an organization in town for blind and low vision people. Clare is on the board and Kate is the CEO!
Darren seemed to find me hilarious which felt very good and he was funny himself and a good conversationalist. But he was like a child with his fussy eating: he wouldn't taste the haggis but instead quickly licked it and made faces and gestures of disgust. He wouldn't eat the cranachan nor the Cullen skink because they were creamy. He won't eat steak. But he does like vegetables. And he has written a book (of fiction)!*
I walked back to Clare's and I went to dinner late and we had pizza at Breizh, Brittany cuisine.
She filled up a hot water bottle for me. It helped me go to sleep! Clare only has a bathtub and a shower nozzle so I haven't bothered to try it out yet. But she gave me a washcloth (they call it a "flannel")!
