Mind your head

“Seachain do cheann - Mind your head” - is written on the warning signs on many busses in Ireland.

Maybe the answer to how best to travel at my age is to go with a small group, or to be able to rent a car...or to travel for longer, like a year, by public transport!

I am trying to mind my head since no one else is but at times I feel bereft and lonely and other times I feel so very lucky to be able to do this traveling, finally taking this trip of a lifetime, both in terms of my health and my finances.

Today I spent almost the whole day in buses and I just want to be on foot! 9-10 am bus to Galway; 11-1:30 bus to Limerick; 2:30-5:30 bus to Waterford. I did have almost an hour in Limerick; I got excited when I saw the Frank McCourt Museum only to learn it has been closed for 3 years. So I went to the Art Museum!

The Museum used to be a Carnegie library! Even more interesting is that the Limerick has the most Carnegie libraries of anywhere!

Did anyone else assume Andrew Carnegie was American? He was born and lived in Scotland until the age of 13.

I think a fun tour would be to see all the Irish Carnegie libraries!

  1. You've done so much and more to go and see! It's a great trip and all the emotions are part of it.

  2. “9-10 am bus to Galway; 11-1:30 bus to Limerick; 2:30-5:30 bus to Waterford. “ wow! So much time on the bus. You’ve got stamina! I like your mind your head metaphor for the feelings of travel.
